Grip Truck; part 1

part 2

We're putting together our grip truck and to do that we'll have to play another round of Stackonomics 101.

What we have is a used 17' U-Haul box truck which should take us there and back again no problems. The engine checks out really good, but the dealership that performed the pre-buy inspection missed a bunch of problems with the suspension that cost us a lot of money to fix. We're in negotiations with them to resolve that issue.

In the meantime, here's the rundown of what we have to fit:

1. lights and light stands
2. cameras and accessories
3. extension cables
4. audio equipment
5. a cooled chest to store film
6. a generator
7. a nice workbench with a good toolchest
8. a ton of miscellaneous equipment

Here's a look at the design of 1 of the 2 light carts:

The other cart will have 2 5K lights on the bottom shelf and 1 10K above that. If we space it all out properly the 10K (which is too heavy for 1 person to lift) should drop down right onto it's stand without having to muscle it around much. Pictures of that later when we have a better idea of how it will look.

We'll have a similar rig for the cameras, and that should be easier because they're all in road cases.
