Grip Truck; part 2

part 1 just in case you missed it.

Here's the floor plan of the grip truck. It's gonna be a little tight in there:

Here's a shot of one wagon in place:

*(Rudolf... lights... red-ish color? Eh? EH? Never mind...)

ed. note: It is a pretty evergreen color though.

The latest INSANITY regarding wagons... and trucks

OK. This is just too cool, for school or really anything else on Planet Earth. Check out this baby:

We added an extra patty on the buns
How's that for "beefing" things up??? Man, am I geekin' out right about now... WHY didn't I get to have one of these when I was a kid? (We're going to be the coolest production company in the US.) The light wagon was a little unstable so we welded on some extra axle and slapped on 4 extra tires. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

No.

See?
It's...
And with the light carrier attached:
A light load...
Many wheels make light work? Light loads need many wheels. Or something.

Lights!!!

Here are the latest additions to our lighting department!

Back lights, rim lights, kickers... call 'em what you will!
Being that the smallest HID bulb we've been able to source is equivalent to a 1k tungsten, we're just going to have to gel these 200-watt lamps to correct to daylight. Were we to convert them to HMI, I think it would amount to AWESOME since it would probably look like a light-saber was coming out the front... but I don't think the talent want to have their eyes explode from the overdose of lumens. Or something.

Light Tests

We've made 2 orders for lamps; the problem is that, between making the 1st and 2nd order, the manufacturer updated the design and we can no longer source the older style lamp. Looking at them side-by-side, you can see how different the two spectra are; the shadow on the left is being filled by the lamp on the left, which reveals a purplish tint; whereas the other lamp is throwing a greenish tint revealed by the shadow on the right. If all the lamps were the same, this wouldn't be a problem; so it looks like we're making another order!

Not all light is cast the same!

Here you can see the physical difference between the two models (The green card behind is blocking the reflector to mute the camera flash):
Old model (greenish)
New model (purplish)
On the lighter side, we are making a lot of progress with our homemade scrims, and we're learning a lot too. I think most big-name cinematographers would agree: everyone should make their own lighting accessories, it's fun and educational!

Donchu even be hatin' on my pun.

ed. note: fun, educational and CHEEP!
ed. note: Oh, we COULD gel to correct, but what fun would that be? Indeed there will be some variation between bulbs which will require some adjustments, but keeping it simple where possible is a good policy.
